Building the Appellate Record - Pretrial Litigation and Update on the Law
Published by Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association

Research shows that capital defendants are made, not born. They are made by the circumstances in which they are raised, by the culture they learn, by the mental capacities they inherit, by the drugs that they are exposed to and the coping skills they develop as they mature. This program will introduce trial lawyers to the manifestations of common mental illnesses, deficiencies and other conditions which affect our ability to communicate with and present complete pictures of our clients. Attendees will be taught how to work with mental health professionals and their clients to present a compelling case for life. This program will also provide training in victim outreach and trial topics.
